Of medium size and spread, to five feet wide in a hot climate (larger in cooler climates) very high flower to leaf ratio, attractive marbled lilypads boldly splashed and marbled green and maroon. compared to coarse plain varieties such as Colorado which are inclined to smother a pond with poor bloom to lilypad ratios and highly undesireable fast spreading habits
A prolific bloomer in a position it likes early in Summer, blooms which stay open much later in the day when most other hardy waterlilies have closed, exceptionally heat tolerant.
A changeable hardy waterlily, in previous years considered the best of the changeables by water lily growers. Foliage exotically marbled green and maroon as dramatic as any tropical waterlily... Because of its exceptional looks and habits, it might explain why few folk are willing to part with it and is rarely seen listed
Perhaps the most spectacular of medium sized hardy waterlilies, the elegant star shaped flowers have glowing deep orange stamens with rose vermillion petals becoming more intense each day, produced prolific when the rhisome has settled in.
Introduced in 1894 by Joseph Marliac
