Merrily trotting bare root within its own little 20' long trench, Mrs Perry D. Slocum gallops along at the rate of six feet per month. I'm really quite looking forward to seeing it bump into the other hand of the trench and trotting back upon itself, along the line of the longish pit. Started off as a single damaged tuber at one end of the pond, it started galloping as soon as waters warmed and popped its first bud and bloomed a month or two later. Fascinating, watching the runner snake along the surface and as the foliage and buds formed some weight it laid itself down into the bottom of the trench. One convenient thing about growing lotus bare root, along a straight trench, its going to be fairly easy to find two straight tubers, or intact runners absolutely intact just the right size to fit into a priority box tube. Any time of year, when there is not a plate of ice. Regards, andy - http://www.flickr.com/photos/21940871@N06/ - http://s93.photobucket.com/albums/l42/adavisus/
